A founding editor of the magazine Fourth Genre: Explorations in Nonfiction, Michael Steinberg has been a fixture in the world of essay and memoir for many years. In 2004 his memoir Still Pitching won the ForeWord Magazine/Independent Press Memoir of the Year and the anthology, The Fourth Genre: Contemporary Writers of/on Creative Nonfiction, co-edited with Robert Root, has long been one of the defining texts of the genre.
